I mostly listen to podfic when I'm travelling; it's perfect for me if I'm cycling, because it takes enough of my attention to keep me interested while trundling slowly uphill, but not so much that I can't focus on traffic. Music tends to blank out outside sounds if I have it loud, and I also find that it ends up as background sound rather than actually helping entertain me. Also good for long train and/or plane journeys; I listened to the whole of Hawks and Hands on my way to Australia, and that was a total lifesaver.
So far I've really just gone for long stories I already know and love. I like longer fic more anyway, but for podfic stuff that's under about 20 minutes feels like a waste of time to me. My old commute was about an hour, hour and a half, in total, and I liked stories that would last me a week.
I'm not keen on explicit porn in podfics; it's ok when I'm cycling, but if I'm around people (on a train, say) I get very uncomfortable.
Other recs: I lovezoetrope's voice, and am inclined to pick up less-favourite stories if she's done them :)
