Now that the last sections of shaenie's Indelible have gone up (!!!), it is my distinct pleasure to provide you all with the accompanying soundtrack (link goes to sendspace).

I had to withhold it until now, on the off-chance that anyone reading the story was sufficiently music-geekish so as to actually get spoilers out of it. I've been making mix CDs for years, but the first time I ever felt the urge to make a soundtrack, it was for one of her stories, so there's something satisfyingly full-circle about posting this. Also, it was an incredible puzzle finding music that fit, so I'm extra-proud of the results.

I love a lot of different music for a lot of different reasons, but there's a special place in my heart for songs that tell stories and do it well. Lately, I channel a lot of that love into mix-making and soundtracking. If I had more time and resources, though, I'd be making vid after vid, trying to capture the places these songs make my head go.

The latest song to flatten me with its sheer storytelling capacity is Johnny Cash's cover of Jimmy Webb's "The Highwayman". My god, what a song; I teared up driving down the street the first time I heard it all the way through.

In my mind, this is a song that could be beautifully illustrated in a multi-fandom vid: it would make such a wonderful ode to these archetypal heroes who keep returning to us, in one guise or another, rising from disaster and death to ride again. I know some of the source texts I would use, but I'm curious: who do you think of when you hear the different verses? Which shows and characters would you weave in here? Tell me yours and I'll tell you mine.

So, there's some significant Unidentified-related stuff due to be posted within the next week, and I wanted to tack up a bit of music to go with them. Does anyone have a copy of Robert Plant and Allison Krauss's version of "Please Read the Letter" that they'd be willing to upload for me?

Since I've been on the receiving end of good music karma lately (sleepwalkerfish, I'm especially looking at you here), I figured I ought to do a little something in return. My sga_flashfic story (which, one month and 20,000 words later, is really abusing the definition of a flashfic *facepalm*) is off at beta right now, and when I uploaded the soundtrack for my beta-readers, I decided to just go ahead and make it available here early.
