Now that the last sections of
shaenie's Indelible have gone up (!!!), it is my distinct pleasure to provide you all with the accompanying soundtrack (link goes to sendspace).
I had to withhold it until now, on the off-chance that anyone reading the story was sufficiently music-geekish so as to actually get spoilers out of it. I've been making mix CDs for years, but the first time I ever felt the urge to make a soundtrack, it was for one of her stories, so there's something satisfyingly full-circle about posting this. Also, it was an incredible puzzle finding music that fit, so I'm extra-proud of the results.
Soundtrack notes. (Warning: moderate plot arc spoilers, don't read these until you've finished the fic!)
1. The Good, the Bad, and the Queen, "History Song." If you don't know it now then you will do/ And if you don't feel it now then you will do.
2. The Mountain Goats, "Magpie." And when the cherries white with blossoms/ Be ready and be brave/ And remember what we had here/ When there was something left to save.
3. Bear McCready, "All Along the Watchtower." There must be some way out of here, said the joker to the thief/ There's too much confusion, I can't get no relief.
4. Calexico, "Sonic Wind." Sonic wind, honing in, on a tune that no one can hear/ Perfect pitch, simple glitch, promises it would never appear/ In the skies, disguised.
5. Jeff Buckley, "Mojo Pin (Live)." Don't wanna weep for you, I don't wanna know/ I'm blind and tortured, the white horses flow/ The memory's fire, the rhythms fall slow.
6. The National, "Start a War." Do you really think you can just put it in a safe behind a painting, lock it up and leave/ Walk away now and you’re gonna start a war.
7. Dar Williams, "You Won't See Me." When I call you up/ Your line's engaged/ I have had enough/ So act your age/ We have lost the time/ That was so hard to find/ And I will lose my mind/ If you won't see me.
8. Aimee Mann, "I Can't Get My Head Around It." Way more real than real/ The world inside the glass/ That struggles to conceal/ The wreckage on the overpass.
9. Nada Surf, "What Is Your Secret?" You said just what I said/ So why's the meter red?/ And why's the needle pegged?/ What is your secret?
10. Ane Brun, "This Voice." This voice, is it calling?/ Is it calling?/ It's your choice, she said/ Take or let go/ Is it calling?
11. Damien Rice, "Rootless Tree." What I want from us is empty our minds/ But we fake a fuss and fracture the times/ We go blind when we've needed to see/ And this leans on me, like a rootless tree.
12. Andrew Bird, "Measuring Cups." Get out your measuring cups and we'll play a new game/ Come to the front of the class and we'll measure your brain.
13. Brandi Carlile, "Losing Heart." I don't mind/ If my heart don't beat and the sun don't shine/ They'll get theirs/ You'll get yours and I'll get mine.
14. Kathleen Edwards, "Goodnight California." You know what I wish?/ It was just you and me/ Sitting in this corner bar/ You can tell me how you are/ I'm not going to lie, or anything/ You don't even have to speak/ If you keep looking at me.
15. Herbert, "Just Once." Won't you come back now/ Just once, just once/ Show yourself right here/ Just once, once.
16. Neko Case, "A Widow's Toast." You raise your glass and may exclaim/ "I'll put my hands on the truth, by God!"/ But it's faster, love, than you and me/ Faster than the speed of gravity/ That's how it catches you from falling/ And how it always slips away.
17. Snow Patrol, "Somewhere A Clock Is Ticking." I've got this feeling that there's something that I missed/ I could do most anything to you/ Don't you breathe/ Something happened that I never understood/ You can't leave.
18. The Cardigans, "Drip Drop Teardrop." I'm gonna watch you while you get me wrong/ I'm gonna sing until you hate this song/ I'm gonna tell you in my sweetest voice/ I'm gonna choose you 'cause you have no choice/ This funny thing we've got/ Is never gonna stop.
19. Guster, "Satellite." Passenger side, lighting the sky/ Always the first star that I find/ You're my satellite/ Maybe you will always be/ Just a little out of reach.
20. Led Zeppelin, "Achilles' Last Stand." Oh to ride the wind/ To tread the air above the din/ Oh to laugh aloud/ Dancing as we fought the crowd.
21. Modest Mouse, "People As Places As People." And the people you love/ But you didn't quite know/ They're the places that you wanted to go.
22. PJ Harvey, "The Slow Drug." Still the question lingers/ I twist it round my fingers/ Could you be my calling?
23. Interpol, "Public Pervert." Oh, so swoon baby, starry nights/ May our bodies remain/ You move with me, I'll treat you right, baby/ May our bodies remain.
24. John Doe, "Darling Underdog." Green into blue/ Black into white/ Me into you/ Like ultraviolet light.
Hope you all enjoy the music. :)
